nanummik is the Inuktitut word for bear. Bears are a spiritual guide for many Indigenous cultures; they represent facing foes with bravery and integrity. While the mother bear has the courage and strength to face her fears and protect her cubs, she also shows us how to live a balanced life with survival, rest, and play while defending what she believes is right for her community, family, and self.
